Business License Online Application

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO APPLYING

HOME BASED BUSINESSES ARE REQUIRED TO FILL OUT THE HOME OCCUPATION APPLICATION. https://cityoflamesa.us/441/In-City-Home-Occupation. You can upload your form on the online application once completed.

If you have questions regarding your home occupation application, please contact Planning at 619-667-1177.

Email for payment will be sent once the application has been reviewed.

The application is routed for approval through the Fire, Community Development (and occasionally) Police Departments.

The process generally takes two to six weeks for the license to arrive in the mail.

Description of type of business is required. Please be specific.

A tax ID number is required. Corporations, LLC's, Limited Partnerships, or Trusts are required to provide an FEIN for the business.

Sole proprietors or partnerships are required to provide their social security number or their state ID/DL number for all listed owners or partners.

Licensed professionals (e.g., Contractors, Lawyers, Estheticians, Physicians, etc) must provide a valid state license number.

Booth rentals please add all services being done in the description area. Please add your DCA license number as well. If left blank (no write-in) application will be delayed or rejected.

Please select the booth rental from the drop down box if you are renting a booth from the owner of the salon.

If you are a salon owner, please select the barber/beauty/nails selection from the drop down box.

ALL IN CITY BUSINESSES ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AN INSPECTION.

The Heartland Fire Department requires an inspection of your business as part of the approval process.

Per AB 2184, you may protect your residential address by providing a different Service of Process address in accordance with Sections
16000.1(a)(2) and 16100.1(a)(2) of the Business and Professions Code. To do so, after applying online, send an email to
licensing@cityoflamesa.us with Service of Process address.

Note: If you plan to own, operate or manage a business in La Mesa where unpackaged food items are processed, handled, prepared, served or sold you may also be required by the La Mesa FOG Ordinance to obtain a FOG Discharge Permit from the City of La Mesa. CLICK HERE
